The Challenge

Janella Pash is in training to take on the Run Melbourne Half Marathon on 15 July. This will be her second half marathon and she is relishing the challenge.

"Help me to help these babies and children with cerebral palsy. The funds will be used directly to provide intensive therapy to acheive the daily functional goals the rest of us take for granted. Every donation makes a difference to assist these children in their everyday lives."

Thank you

Why Kids Plus?

Babies and children with Cerebral palsy who attend Kids Plus face their own challenges everyday as they work to achieve the basic activities the rest of us take for granted: mobility, communication, eating and drinking, self care and play. Cerebral palsy is the most common, physical disability in childhood. It is a permanent disability that affects movement and control of muscles. Cerebral palsy results from damage to the developing brain, usually before birth. In Australia, a child is born with Cerebral palsy every 18 hours. There is no known cure, and for most, the cause is unknown. The impact on an individual child ranges from severely affected quadriplegic through to hemiplegia (one side of the body), diplegia (lower limbs only) to mildly affected (one limb or less affected areas). Speech, swallowing (affecting eating and drinking), and eye control can also be impacted. Cerebral palsy is not an intellectual disability although some of these children may have other special needs and in some cases very complex medical issues.
