History

Kids Plus Foundation was founded in 2003 by parents of children with special needs, therapists and concerned community members in the Geelong region of Victoria in response to the glaring gap of access to intensive, quality and regular goal focused therapy for children with cerebral palsy, stroke or brain injury, and their families, regardless of financial circumstances.

Having one therapy session every 10 weeks simply does not meet the demand or deliver the outcomes needed or possible for babies and children with neuro physical disabilities. Private providers are expensive and therefore access is limited. Government funded agencies are stretched to capacity and offer as much help as they possibly can. Added to that is the burden for parents of having to schedule in sessions with a speech therapist, occupational therapist and physiotherapist in different locations.

“We took from the best of what we had learnt and researched internationally and in Australia,’ said Kate Bain Occupational Therapist, Kids Plus. “We have developed a unique therapy program in our region of Victoria that can be taken to any corner of the globe.”

Kids Plus parents and children are offered weekly sessions each term at no cost to families, of intensive therapy with a team that not only helps the child reach its potential, but also supports and guides parents.

Each Kids Plus child registered in our program will continue to need and receive our therapy for an average five years, before they start school. Kids Plus usually continue for schoolaged children with multiple complex needs up to 18 yers old. There are usually up to 75 children and families looking for a place on our therapy program every term in the Barwon region of Victoria.
